I'm not fat but why are you picking on them? Obesity is hereditary, maybe these people can't help it. Maybe they are trying to loose weight. So they have a problem. Can I pick on you for your problems?

Of course, it's a government money grab. Everything is. Anything they can find a justification to put a tax on, they will. It's getting ridiculous.

The idea is that those activities are likely to result in expenses such as health care cost beyond the users ability to pay and the government will need to pick up some part of the cost. Therefore it is "fair" to tax the users more than those that don't participate in those activities.

Is beer and wine required to sustain life? It isn’t in my world.

If you are poor and don’t want your taxes to go up I have a great solution for you…stop drinking beer and wine. Stop smoking. It’s really not terribly difficult.

I am a soda addict and I freely admit it. But I can afford soda and I can afford an additional tax. I also freely admit that because I drink soda I am at a greater risk for obesity, heart disease, etc, etc, etc.
