When I heard Nyetimber Classic Cuvee 2003 had come out top in a blind tasting at the world sparkling wine championships in Verona, beating super-brands such as Louis Roederer 2000 (who make the famous Cristal), my reaction was: so what? Blind tastings throw up weird results. When judges' scores are averaged out, the least offensive wine often comes out on top. Until now I've been impressed but not bowled over by English sparkling wine. Then, this morning I tasted the latest release of the Nyetimber, which kicked up such a storm in Italy. It has enormous concentration and persistence of flavour – longer than the train journey from London to Penzance....

There was a winemaker in Chateauneuf-du-Pape (quite alcoholic wines, thanks to Grenache) who said that its ridiculous for people to fret about that extra bit of alcohol ... unless you're drinking bottles of the stuff you're unlikely to notice much of a difference (especially if you're drinking with food and over a long period of time - like the French do).

It is mostly hype that I've experienced. I've bought & sampled about 2 dozen brands/styles of Absinthe and have had no head trip experiences. It's a high proof alcohol that (traditionally) tastes like black licorice, that's about all. If you want take a shot of it & mix it with some Coke/Pepsi (or other cola drink, even a Cherry Coke variety tastes good). The main thing is if it's a true absinthe it'll be strong (high alcohol content) so mix it at a 1 to 3 ratio with whatever you use. And enjoy, I like it myself cuz I think it tastes great.

I like the FAT BASTARD brand, Merlot or a dark SHIRAZ is good -

the chubby little hippo on the lable is cute and it's only $12.00 a bottle. Plus the name will bring a chuckle–unless you live in California—they have no sense of humor there- got looked at funny while asking for it in a few places while on vacation…..

moscato are sweet and a good wine if you dont want something dry or heavy. Barefoot also makes a good moscato. It is a little "lighter" than the Sutter moscato and VERY easy to drink….esp. in the summer!

The idea is that those activities are likely to result in expenses such as health care cost beyond the users ability to pay and the government will need to pick up some part of the cost. Therefore it is "fair" to tax the users more than those that don't participate in those activities.

The lesson to be learned here is this:
No one wants to see a picture of your wiener. No one. Not your wife. Not your girlfriend. Not some anonymous chick on the internet. No one. Silly congressman. Cameras are for t*ts.

Paris Hilton co-starred in a nationwide campaign by one of the main phone/internet company in Italy; everybody saw the commercials and the result was comedians jeering at those commercials, mocking Paris, etc. A lot of talk on newspapers and on TV. So, it was a right choice, since the purpose of advertising is making people talking about :-)

But...

Wine is another issue. Italians are far more culturally educated about drinking, Ms Hilton will simply not fit with that role.
She would likably be seen as a bad example to follow, when talking about alcoholic drinks, while for a phone company could just be funny.
